DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Court documents reveal the man stabbed at Dubuque's Kennedy Mall over the weekend was stabbed because he had been sending Facebook messages to the suspect's girlfriend.

Tommy R. Price, Jr., a 26-year-old from Mount Morris, Ill., is charged with willful injury-causing serious injury, which is a felony.  He is in the Dubuque County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond.

Dubuque Police were called around 8:15 p.m. Friday night to a report of a stabbing at Kennedy Mall.  That's where they found 22-year-old Shelvy Lee Marcus Fair who told police he had been stabbed.  Documents show police saw him bleeding from a stab wound under his left should blade/arm pit area.

Documents show he was taken to Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque to be treated for a puncture to his left lung.

Police located Price, who was read his Miranda rights, and gave a full confession to stabbing Fair with a pocket knife because Fair had been sending messages to Price's girlfriend over Facebook, according to court documents.

Price then told police he had stashed his shirt and the knife in the House of China parking lot.  Court documents show police were able to locate the shirt, but not the knife.

The documents also say that Price's current girlfriend, 21-year-old Taylor Watson from Savanna, Ill., told police she had witnessed Price stab Fair during the confrontation.
