Former NBA player Moses Malone dies

Professional basketball standout Moses Malone has died in his sleep in Norfolk, Virginia overnight, according to reports. He was 60 years old.

Malone was named the Most Valuable Player of the NBA in 1979, 1982 and 1983. He played for the Houston Rockets from 1977-1982 before signing with the Philadelphia 76ers and winning the the 1982-83 NBA title. He was named NBA Finals MVP following Philadelphia's series win.

Malone also played for the Washington Bullets, Atlanta Hawks, Milwaukee Bucks and San Antonio Spurs in his 19-year NBA career.

The Petersburg, Virginia native was named one the greatest 50 NBA players in 1996.
