DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

It's not the typical night at the mall -- police on the scene, caution tape blocking off the entrance and people being questioned.

"Officers responded to a stabbing, we have an individual that's been stabbed," said Lt. Brad Shannon of the Dubuque Police Department.

A stabbing incident happened at Kennedy  Mall  in Dubuque shortly after 8 pm on Friday night.

Police say the victim, 22-year-old Shelvy Lee Marcus Fair of Dubuque was found bleeding from a stab wound in the area of his left armpit.

"Right inside the main entrance doors,  about 50 feet inside.  It wasn't inside a specific store," said Lt. Shannon.

Police say 26-year-old Tommy Ray Price  Jr. of Mount Morris, Illinois has been charged and arrested for the stabbing.

He was located not too far from the  mall -- in the area of Dodge and Devon.

As for the victim, it seems he'll be okay.

"He since then has been taken to one of our hospitals by ambulance, as this point in time, it doesn't appear to be life threatening," said Lt. Shannon.

Meanwhile -- police say they're  still working to piece together some parts of the incident, but the suspect now sits in the Dubuque County Jail.

A $50,000 cash bond has been set.

If convicted -- he could face up to ten years in prison -- and a fine of nearly $10,000.

KWWL reached out to management at the mall.  Their communications team said this seemed to be a matter of personal grievance, not a case of random violence.  However, they said have security protocols in place and are very confident in them -- should they need to be used.
