Diet soda drinkers make up for the calories with food, study finds

Researchers studying diet beverage drinkers found, that though they may be saving calories with the drinks, they're more likely to make up for those calories with unhealthy food.
The scientists looked at food and beverage consumption for more than 22,000 adults over two days and found that those who drank alcohol had the largest increase in daily calories, followed by those who drank sugary beverages.
People who drank coffee and diet soda did consume the fewest calories, but their diets weren't great; those people tended to eat the most unhealthy foods - loaded with fat and sugar.
Experts say that may be because diet soda drinkers may need more food to feel satisfied, or they may feel justified eating more.
