A new Boy Scout Troop in Waterloo is giving kids an opportunity to have a safe place to go to for after school.

Organizer Pete Fuller says he pushed to start the group in light of the increase in crime in Waterloo.

Fuller says he wants to make a difference in the Waterloo community.

The new troop, Troop 290, was able to start with a grant from the national Boy Scouts program.

The money will go to assist scouts with uniforms and equipment.

The troop is still accepting applications.

Their first meeting was held on September 10.

The next informational meeting will be held on October 1 at 6 pm in the Elks Lodge in Waterloo.
