Cedar Rapids street to become two-way street tomorrow

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The City of Cedar Rapids say 2nd Avenue, between 6th Street SW and 1st Street SE, will open Friday as a two-way street.

Crews have been working all week to remove the old markings and apply new striping to what was originally a one-way street.

Once 2nd Avenue has been re-opened, crews will begin working on converting 3rd Avenue, between 6th Street SW and 3rd Street SE, from a one-way street to a two-way street.

The city has been working all summer to convert portions of 2nd Avenue, 3rd Avenue, 4th Avenue SE and 8th Street SE from one-way street to two-way streets.

The city say converting these to two-way streets will give more opportunity to add bike lanes and pedestrian safety features.
