DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

The 2015 NFL season officially kicks off Thursday night, as the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots host the Pittsburgh Steelers.

And while many football fans are excited for the return of professional football, bars might be even more excited.

"Oh, it's huge," said John Conlon, a shift manager at 1st and Main in downtown Dubuque. "Kickoffs coincide with college kids returning. And then weekend business booms."

It's a welcome time for the bar, as the look forward to a big uptick in business after a somewhat slow summer.

"You know, baseball's on, but everyone's waiting for fall," he said. "Not to say goodbye to summer, but to say hello to football again, absolutely."

Not only is the NFL back, but the college football season is in full swing.  And with this weekend's Cy-Hawk game, Jennifer Coulson, a server at Mason Dixon, says she expects big crowds.

"It's a lot of fun, and it's good that the business is doing well and everyone comes down and enjoys themselves and has a good time," Coulson said.

Conlon also said he expects bigger than usual crowds for Thursday night's kickoff, because Tom Brady will be starting for the New England Patriots, after an earlier suspension was recently overturned.

But no matter who your team is or why you're watching, most can agree with Conlon on this one:

"People are ready for football season..let's get it started already."

Patriots-Steelers can be seen on KWWL Thursday night.  Coverage starts at 7:30 p.m.
