WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The state medical examiner's office has ruled a toddler death as accidental.

18-month-old Brody Harrelson was found unconscious at a Waterloo in-home daycare June 17. Harrelson had been placed in a car seat for a nap. Police say Harrelson was placed in an infant carrier car seat provided by the daycare providers.

According to the death certificate, filed by Dr. Michele Catellier with the medical examiner's office, the immediate cause of death was determined as mechanical or positional asphyxia from the strap of a car seat.

The certificate also indicates myocarditis as a factor in the cause of death, which is the inflammation of the middle layer of the heart wall, possibly caused by a viral infection.
