Motion passed: Single Speed Brewery has new home in Waterloo

Posted: Updated:

In an unanimous vote, the Waterloo City Council passed a motion for Single Speed Brewing Company to take occupancy in the historic Waterloo Wonder Bread Building.

"We felt good coming in, but it's always good to get the vote out of the way," said Single Speed owner Dave Morgan.

This will be the second location for the company; the first being on Main Street in Cedar Falls.

Renderings shown at the meeting gave an idea of what the new place would look like, including an outdoor beer garden, a restaurant, and a large brewery area.

Morgan says the goal is to preserve all the original signage, and bring it back to it's glory.

"The support from citizens from Waterloo from the beginning has been pretty amazing," said Morgan.

Morgan says the project has been in the works for a while now, and he's excited to make Single Speed a Cedar Valley business.

Waterloo bar owner John Hayes says it's just what the West side of the river needs.

"I myself have lived 10 years here and I appreciate seeing anything new," said Hayes.

It's a new opportunity for downtown Waterloo and a way to preserve a piece of beloved history.

Morgan says construction is already well underway and they hope to have a business up and running as soon as next Fall.
