IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

The City of Iowa City is asking residents to join in a service say for 9/11.

Backyard Abundance, Shelter House, AmeriCorps, and the  Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting a “9/11 Day of Service” from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Wetherby Park Edible Forest on Friday, Sept. 11.

The Edible Forest is located at 2400 Taylor Drive.

Volunteers will help with light weeding and learn about the edible forest and the foods growing there. Refreshments will be provided.

Participants will also  be given  comfrey rootlets to take home. Comfrey is an herb that is widely used as a fertilizer or compost activator in organic gardening, and is also an ingredient in many natural remedies.

For more information, visit  www.BackyardAbundance.org  or contact Fred Meyer, Backyard Abundance Director, at 319-325-6810 or  fred.meyer@BackyardAbundance.org.
