IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Iowa Board of Regents President Bruce Rastetter says he will seek $4.5 million in additional funding for the University of Iowa in its fiscal year 2017 operating appropriation request.

In a statement, Rastetter says, “After meeting with incoming President Harreld as well as faculty, staff and students, it is clear that additional funding to support the long term reinvestment in the core mission of teaching and research is needed.  I believe that this additional money is critical in the support of the University of Iowa’s vision to invest in its strengths and to continue to provide the highest quality education to our students.”

The Board of Regents will hold its regular meeting at the University of Northern Iowa's Maucker Union on Wednesday.
