Inmate assaults officer at correctional facility

Posted: Updated:

An investigation is underway after an assault incident over the weekend at Fort Dodge Correctional Facility.

According to the Iowa Dept. of Corrections, security staff responded to an officer assault at the facility Sunday around 8 p.m.

Authorities say inmate Vincent Dillworth assaulted a male correctional officer with several punches and kicks to the officer's face. Responding staff restrained Dillworth, and placed him in an administrative segregation cell. Dillworth is serving a 10-year sentence for second degree robbery.

The injured officer was taken to the Fort Dodge Unity Point Medical Center for treatment, with what's believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities say three living units have been placed on temporary lockdown status as a result of the incident.

The Iowa Dept. of Corrections says the Division of Criminal Investigation has been contacted to assist with the investigation.
