Hog confinement catches fire

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: The fire is now out. Monday morning crews will work to unload the 1,250 hogs inside the confinement. They're all alive. Part of the roof of the confinement has come down but it is propped on top of crates to help keep the animals safe.

A roof of a hog confinement is in danger of collapsing following a fire.

According to Waukon Fire Chief Dave Martin, the fire started around midnight. The confinement is located at 970 Jefferson Road.

There are hundreds of hogs inside the building. Currently, all the animals are alive. No people were inside the confinement at the time of the fire.

Chief Martin says they're still investigating the cause but there was a lot of lightning in the area which may have sparked the fire.
