Iowa City Police investigate armed robbery

Iowa City police are investigating an armed robbery.

The Iowa City Police Department responded to the area around McDonalds at 804 S Riverside Drive for a report of a robbery and possible carjacking on Sunday morning around 2:45 a.m.

According to the victim, he was walking into the restaurant with a woman when two black men approached him, one showed a handgun, and both suspects ordered the male and female back into his car.

Once in the car, the men ordered them to drive into a nearby neighborhood where they proceeded to order the victim to turn over an undisclosed amount of property and/or cash.

The victim described the suspect with the handgun as a black male in his early 20s, tall and slender. He was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, black pants, red shoes, and a black Chicago Bulls hat with a red logo.

The victim reporting this incident was not injured. The Iowa City Police Department says the female with him at the time of the robbery, ran away. They are looking to talk to her for more information.
