TRACKING STORMS: Hot and humid today, heavy rain possible tonight

Posted: Updated:

Hot and humid conditions continue today. Highs will again be around 90 with dew points in the 70s. Heat indices will again be reaching to near 100° in many locations. Winds will be from the south at 10-20 mph with gusts higher.

A cold front will track into northwest Iowa this afternoon. Showers and storms are expected to develop along it. A few showers/storms could track into our western counties this evening. The best chance for rain will be tonight into early Labor Day.

Heavy rain will be the main threat with storms but an isolated severe storm is possible west. A flash flood watch has been posted for central Iowa starting at 7 PM tonight until 10 AM Monday. Areas in the flash flood watch could see one to three inches or more of rain tonight.

A few showers/storms will linger into Labor Day, with the best chance of rain in the morning. Rain chances will continue Monday night into Tuesday. Heavy rain will again be a possibility.
