Sanders campaigns throughout eastern Iowa

(KWWL) -

Democratic Presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders made campaign stops throughout eastern Iowa on Friday.

Despite a recent surge, Sanders is still polling in second place behind Hillary Clinton, but believes a grassroots movement will lead him to the Democratic Party's nomination for next year's election.

"We will be out spent, let me just say this, I know we will be out spent by our opponents. We don't have a super PAC," said Sanders. "We are dependent on small, individual contributors. But I think the grassroots movement that you saw out there - that's what's going to win it for us."

Sanders visited Ottumwa, Muscatine, the Meskwaki Nation and later Coe College in Cedar Rapids.

Sanders also joined picketers outside of the Penford potato starch plant while in Cedar Rapids yesterday.
