Waterloo officials visit Manchester whitewater park

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Waterloo is one step closer to getting a whitewater park on the Cedar River. Mayor Buck Clark and several city leaders went to Manchester on Friday, where a whitewater facility opened in June on the Maquoketa River.

It's just one of three in Northeast Iowa.

The Manchester park spans nearly 1,000 feet and hundreds of people use the park on the weekends.

It's that success that sparks the interest of Waterloo Mayor Buck Clark. In fact, he says they've been talking about this project for a few years now.

"That dam doesn't go all the way across. It's 80 feet short of that bank of that east side of the river and that was designed that way for a whitewater park or a kayaking course to go in there," said Mayor Clark.

Mayor Clark says they are still in the beginning stages of this. They still need to get permits and funding, but there are a lot of grants available for something like this.
