DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Mike Krapfl, who identified himself as a nephew of murder victim Nancy Krapfl, released the following statement to KWWL on Thursday afternoon.

It is reprinted in its entirety, unedited:

----------------------------

From the family of Nancy Krapfl:

Nancy Krapfl was a private person living a quiet life on Clarke Drive. We are shocked by her death. We will never understand the brutality.

Nancy grew up on the farm of the late Hugo and Alvina Krapfl near Farley and attended St. Joseph’s School there. After school, she lived and worked in the Denver area for years and loved bragging about the Broncos.

She returned to the Dubuque area in 2000 and, among other jobs, worked as a church secretary at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Dubuque and St. Matthias Parish in Cascade for her brother, the late Fr. Daniel Krapfl.

When her mother Alvina suffered a stroke and her brother Daniel was diagnosed with cancer, she served as their caregivers.

She walked early on summer mornings to avoid the heat. She was never married and enjoyed lunch dates with her nieces.

She was a regular at family reunions. She asked about our lives and didn’t talk much about her own.

We grieve for her. We can’t even think about how she died.

We thank the police and emergency responders for their quick work.

And we ask for prayers for everybody touched by Nancy’s death.
