Local law enforcement reflect on police shootings

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

Lieutenant Marty Beckner has been with the Cedar Falls Police Department going on 15 years. In the recent weeks, his job has been put in the spotlight.

"We're still going to go out and do our job and serve the community and protect the community," said Beckner.

According to the Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, in the last ten days, four officers have been shot and killed.

In Cedar Falls, the law enforcement community is small and these shootings hit close to home.

"I think we all joined this profession to serve others and to help the community and help protect the community which what drives most officers. And so even when we hear something tragic like this, we know we have a job to do and we're going to do it the best we can," said Beckner.

Beckner says the department isn't doing anything different safety wise, they are just making sure to always be aware and vigilant.
