Waterloo man finds sleeping intruder in home

Posted: Updated:

A local father is still in disbelief, he says he came home from work to find an intruder passed out in his bedroom - with a knife.

Police arrested 19-year-old Drake Siemens.

The homeowner, Kenny Bergmann says Siemens had also stolen alcohol and prescription pills.

Bergmann says this 19-year-old is no stranger to the family. He says the teen is obsessed with his 15-year-old daughter, who wants nothing to do with him.

Bergmann says he is glad she wasn't home at the time Siemens broke in.

This happened at Bergmann's Waterloo home on Monday night.

Bergmann noticed something was odd when he got from work. Some of his belongings were stacked up in the garage, things like his son's guitar, X-Box, DVD player, and a rifle.

The front window screen was also sliced in half and that's when he knew someone was inside the home.

He says he found the teen passed out in his bedroom. Bergmann says some liquor and pills were missing from his cabinet and a butcher knife was in the teen's pocket.

"I was thinking where is my daughter you know and I was trying to find her...a lot of things were running through my mind, of course," he said.

Thankfully, Bergmann's daughter was at school and not home at the time of the break in.

Siemens was taken to a local hospital where he spent the night, but has since been released and put in jail.

This was not the first time Siemens tried reaching out to Bergmann's 15-year-old daughter, police were called to the home on Saturday, when he was found roaming around the area.
