DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

There have been more shots fired cases this year in Dubuque than in recent years. So far, there have been 22 confirmed incidents. That's more than last year's total and the totals for previous years.

Many in those communities are concerned about the rise in crime, like Tabatha Kircher.

She has lived in Dubuque all her life, but says in the past several years, things have changed.

"I feel that this town is getting very unsafe for my children to grow up," said Kircher.

She says this because of first hand experience.

"There was a shooting across the street and the bullet hit our house,  so here's the hole the bullet went in to and they had to dig it out," she said.

The number of shots fired in Dubuque just topped last year's total. The most recent incident happened early Monday morning in the 1500 block of Iowa Street near Jackson Park -- bringing the city's total this year to 22.

Tabatha says that's a  problem.

"Within the last, probably seven or eight years, it's been getting bad."

She added that something should be  done about the increasing violence and Dubuque isn't the town she once remembered it to be.

Dubuque police have been  increasing patrols in  the problem areas to help with the violence.
