Veteran running back Fred Jackson has officially been released by the Buffalo Bills.

With nine seasons in Buffalo, the 34-year-old Jackson had been the second-longest serving active player and one of the team's most popular players among fans. Though a surprising move on the Bills part, questions were beginning to rise of Jackson's health and age.

The Bills still have plenty of punch in the backfield with the addition of LeSean McCoy from the Eagles. They also selected a hard-hitting Karlos Williams in this year's draft. The rest of the Bill's depth chart includes Boobie Dixon and Bryce Brown.

Jackson was one of 12 players cut on Monday, when all NFL teams had to reduce their roster to 75 players.
