DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

A 23-year-old Dubuque man has died after being hit by a train.

Samuel D. Bettcher, 23, of Dubuque was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Ankeny for an autopsy. No further details were released about whether the incident was accidental or intentional.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. Saturday near Key City Recycling on Dodge Street in Dubuque.

According to Dubuque Police Lt. Mike Schmidt, the train's engineer said Bettcher came around the corner, got on the track and was then struck by the train.

The train was a Canadian National Rail.

The incident remains under investigation.
