Hazardous materials drop off

Posted: Updated:

The Cedar Rapids Solid Waste and Recycling Division held it's Large and Hazardous Materials drop off today.

Two of these types of drop offs are held a year, one in the spring, and one in the fall.

One vehicle after another dropped off their large items they no longer needed, along with any hazardous materials they wanted to get rid of.

Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity was working hard at the drop off as well.

"As people pull in car loads of things, we're actively engaging and jumping in there and taking things that would otherwise end up in the garbage trucks," said Jonny Lipford, Marketing Specialist at the Cedar Valley Habitat For Humanity Restore.

They worked to salvage items that were in good enough shape to be reused.

Many of the items will be sold at their Restore which is located at 350 6th Avenue SE in Cedar Rapids.

It was free for people to drop off their waste, but they had to be Cedar Rapids utility customers and present a ticket which was delivered in their bill, in order to participate.
