New American Legion open in Waterloo

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Just a few weeks ago, tools and contractors were signs of all the work left to be done at the new American Legion building in downtown Waterloo.
Now, the front room is finished and open for business.
Decorating the walls is artwork brought over from the old hall.
"Here is the guys in the marines, navy, and army sitting around saying who won the war," explains Legion member, Dale Hixson. "They all did. Everybody who had a uniform on, had a job to do and they did it."
Hixson says the painting is a metaphor for the hard work it took to open the new hall.
"It's who did this? We did! I mean gee there is no one person," said Hixson
It took nearly four months and countless volunteer hours to renovate the building.
"It was a team effort," said Hixson. "Yes, it is and we had a pretty good team. I'd wish we had had more volunteers. It might have been done a little quicker."

The next on the list is finishing the party room which includes Bingo. They hope to have their first game September 6th.
Despite the work left to be done in the next week, the members of the legion are excited about the new place.
"We're happy, We are really happy about this," smiled Hixson.
