Reporter ranks county as the worst in America, then gets a tour

Minnesota is known for its lakes, but that wasn't enough to impress a Washington reporter.  He wrote a story saying Red Lake County is the "absolute worst place to live in America."

More than 3,100 counties were ranked based on USDA statistics about climate and scenery.

An eastern Iowa county was also ranked near the bottom. Only 11 counties fared worse than Grundy County in the entire report.

People are now working hard to change the reporter's opinion.

Christopher Ingraham was greeted by the school's band during his visit to Red Lake County. It's the first time he's ever been to Minnesota.

"Do you think it's going to be tough to defend the thesis of your article that this is the worst county in America," asked Neil Carlson, a reporter.

"I think I might have some trouble with that. It was a pretty nice drive out here," said Ingraham, who is getting a tour of the county, including a kayak trip and trail rides.

"I'm taking all sorts of pictures and talking to lots of people. I'm going to take this back to D.C. and take another look at the data," said Ingraham.
