EAST DUBUQUE, Ill. (TH MEDIA) -

We're starting to get a clearer picture of what happened before a superintendent was placed on leave. The East Dubuque School Board has never talked about why Greg Herbst was placed on leave, even after an outpouring of support for him came following the decision.

He's back on the job but was also given a 10-day, unpaid suspension.

Our coverage partners at TH Media now have the details. The documents they were able to get through an open records request, show Herbst ignored directives from the school board and asked an elementary principal to resign more than once. According to the documents, Herbst did not do performance evaluations for the principal, but told the school board he was working on it.
