IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

The first University of Iowa Presidential candidate was on campus Thursday. Marvin Krislov is currently the president of Oberlin College in Ohio.

During a public forum, Krislov talked about the university's strengths.

"There's a lot of excitement here, the tradition of innovation as a way to move forward to academic excellence," said Krislov.

He also talked about his goals to help the university move forward, should he be chosen as the next president. He says keeping college affordable is important. He also said it's necessary to compete for money for research. He believes there's room for improvement when it comes to student graduation rates.

"Some of the challenges are not so different from the challenges facing many American higher education institutions, public and private," said Krislov.

The second candidate is on campus Friday. Michael Bernstein is the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Tulane University in New Orleans.

There are four finalists. The names of the other two have not been released.
