CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

A project in the works for more than a decade, and ground is finally broken this week. It's a $42 million wellness and community center in Cedar Falls.

The new facility will become the Center of Senior Living for the Western Home Communities in Cedar Falls

"These buildings aren't big enough to really hold all the people and then if we want to give lessons and that type of stuff, we are stuck into a little exercise room. So yeah, we are really wanting more space to include a lot more people," said Donna Brown, a resident at the current center.

The facility will include a restaurant, performance theater, meeting rooms and an aquatic exercise center.

The project will also add 75 independent living apartments and a medical recovery center.
