CORALVILLE (KWWL) -

Governor Branstad will issue a proclamation for Coach Hayden Fry during this year's FRY fest celebration on September 4th.

Branstad will be recognizing Coach Fry for his America Needs Farmers initiative as this year's celebration of "all things Hawkeye" commemorates the 30th anniversary of ANF.

The America Needs Farmers program brought awareness of farming to sports during 1980s farm crisis which bankrupted thousands of Iowa farmers.

Coach Fry drew upon the success and media exposure of his team and re-directed that attention to the importance of agriculture.

In addition to Governor Branstad's proclamation, Iowa Secretary of Ag Bill Northey will present Coach Fry with the "Pioneer of Agriculture Award"  live on the Big Show, which is an agriculture-focused radio program broadcast on Newsradio 600 WMT Cedar Rapids and Newsradio 1040 WHO Des Moines.
