Traffic stop leads to meth arrest in Dyersville

DYERSVILLE (KWWL) -

Dyersville Police have arrested a man after finding drugs during a traffic stop.

On Tuesday just before 10 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop at 725 9th Ave SE. While there, the officer detected a scent of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The officer located drug paraphernalia and controlled substances of marijuana and methamphetamine during the stop. After further investigation, items used to manufacture methamphetamine were also found in the vehicle.

Dubuque Drug Task Force assisted at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, Jacob Paul Schmitt, 22, of Farley, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and possession of methamphetamine.

Schmitt is currently being held at the Dubuque county jail waiting for his initial court appearance. Police say the incident is under investigation and further charges are pending.
