Clinton mourns TV shooting, pledges to fight gun violence

Posted: Updated:

ANKENY, Iowa (AP) -- Hillary Rodham Clinton says the on-air shooting of two TV journalists confirms that it's time to do something to prevent gun violence in the United States.

Speaking after an event in Iowa Wednesday, the Democratic presidential candidate said she was stricken to hear about the fatal on-air shooting of a reporter and a cameraman from a TV station in Virginia earlier in the day.

After offering her condolences to the victims' families and co-workers, Clinton said she would work on the issue, adding that there are ways to balance legal gun rights with "preventative measures and control measures."

Clinton says that if guns weren't so readily available, perhaps such carnage would be prevented.
