The League of American Bicyclists recognized Cedar Rapids Water Department Administration Building, the City of Cedar Rapids City Services Center, and the City of Cedar Rapids Central Fire Station with a Bronze Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) award, joining more than 1,000 visionary businesses from across the country.

With the announcement of 100 new and renewing Bicycle Friendly Businesses today, the City of Cedar Rapids joins a group of more than 1,050 businesses, government agencies and Fortune 500 companies in 47 states and Washington, D.C., that are transforming the American workplace.

The facilities all encourage bicycling as an easy option for transportation, and provide amenities such as showers and bike racks for employees. They also offer a bike share program, which enables employees to ride to meetings or over the lunch hour. Employees can also participate in the BikeCR Employee Bike Club, and are encouraged to actively participate in Bike to Work Week every year during the month of May.

Moving forward, all three facilities will have access to a variety of free tools and technical assistance from the League to become even more bicycle-friendly. To apply or learn more about the BFB program, visit the League online at www.bikeleague.org/business.

The City of Cedar Rapids was recognized in 2014 by the League of American Bicyclists as a Bronze Bicycle Friendly Community. Cedar Rapids was the first in the state of Iowa to install green bike lanes, it will be the first in the state to install protected bike lanes (installation set for fall, 2015), and it was the second in the state to install in-street bike corrals.
