WATERLOO (KWWL) -

It's been coined as "The Full Grassley" -- touring all 99 Iowa counties -- and some political candidates are following suit.

"We plan to win the caucuses by doing it the old-fashioned way," said Mike Huckabee.

That's Huckabee's plan. But is it working?

His Waterloo event had only about 25 people attend, compared to Donald Trump's Dubuque event the same night pulling 3,000 people.

"I think the Full Grassley is still absolutely necessary, still absolutely expected for a candidate to win any kind of statewide election in Iowa, but I think Trump is one of those unusual candidates," said Chris Larimer, KWWL political analyst.

Larimer says he credits a lot of Trump's success to his celebrity status.

He also says, though, he's surprised that even though Trump is bucking the trend and saying what he wants, he is staying on top of the polls.

"I think Trump is tapping into voters' frustration with government and just wanting someone to speak candidly, and he certainly does that," said Larimer.

As for Huckabee, he says he isn't concerned with Trump.

"I didn't come to Iowa to talk about him. I came to Iowa to talk about how we get jobs back to this country," said Huckabee.
