Popular Iowa wooden maze closing gates this fall

CLEAR LAKE, Iowa (AP) -- A popular wooden maze in northern Iowa will confound patrons for the last time this fall.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports that after 15 years, Fort Custer Maze will close its gates in October.

Owner Jack Kennedy, who will be 91 in November, says he's been maintaining the maze for more than 1,000 hours every summer and decided it's time to stop.

He says the maze will remain open until late October, weather permitting.

The maze made of wooden pallets that replicate an old western fort. The complex covers almost two acres, with nearly two miles of maze paths.

There are bridges, a lookout tower and stations to help guests find their way out.
