Man leading police on pursuit goes airborne, lands in creek

A man is facing charges after leading police on a pursuit that ended up with his car in the creek.

Waterloo police say 32-year-old Marchello Rembert led them on a short chase through Waterloo before going over a curb and landing in a creek in Gates Park.

"He went up on the curb, then went airborne for a few seconds, then I heard the car crash into the creek," said one witness.

Rembert was taken out on a stretcher, and his car was left behind for police to investigate.

Less than 24 hours after the park was a crime scene, things were back to normal, but neighbors are still nervous.

"My son comes here a lot, he plays with his friends here," said Shanice Wilder. "I wouldn't want any kid witnessing anything like that."

Wilder lives down the street from the park, she's grateful the chase didn't happen when kids were at the park.

She says kids should be kids, and they shouldn't ever have to think about something like this happening in their backyard.

Rembert is facing charges for eluding, marijuana possession, and driving on a suspended license.
