WATERLOO (KWWL) -

According to the Federal Election Commission or FEC there are 586 candidates who are vying for your vote. That includes 'Buddy the Cat' and 'Baily the Dog,' but it's a 15-year-old Iowa boy that is getting some national attention and some laughs.

"There is that equality of opportunity in terms of people who want to run for president they can file the papers to do that," said Chris Larimer, KWWL Political Analyst.

What's unique about this Iowa boy's fake name, is he's actually polling in Iowa. One poll is showing him with seven percent as an independent.

Larimer says it's important to be careful with the polls you read.

"But in this case I just think that's unfortunate that people are responding to that. What that tells me is that they're either not paying attention to the process right now or are fed up with it and don't think it's important," said Larimer.

Larimer says unfortunately people take advantage of the democratic process and the FEC puts all the filings on their site.
