UPDATE: 'armed and dangerous' suspect arrested in Cedar Rapids

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: Cedar Rapids police say they arrested 28-year-old Diamond Wilson at the Cedarwood Hills Apartments in Cedar Rapids around 8:30 Wednesday night.

Wilson was delivered to Johnson County authorities.

No further information has been given.

Tuesday afternoon crime scene investigators were actively analyzing after shots rang out at the Orchard Place apartments on the south side of Iowa City.

Iowa City Police say 28-year old Diamond Sincere Wilson is the man they are looking for in connection to the shooting and they're calling him “armed and dangerous.”

“A little bit of arguing and so on and so forth and then you heard a little bang,” said 13-year old Shamar Curry.

KWWL spoke with Shamar with his mother's permission.

“I was pretty scared when I heard it at first,” said Shamar. "I had to stop and drop and think about it like whoa that's a gunshot! Then my mom said stay under control. We tried to look to make sure everybody in the house was perfectly fine.”

Shamar lives just a few doors down from the crime scene and says he was inside with his mom playing video games early Tuesday morning around 2:30.

Police say an argument started between Wilson and the victim inside an apartment unit.

Soon after, Wilson allegedly pulled out a black handgun, aimed it right at the victim's chest and apparently fired one shot.

The victim was able to dodge the bullet and wasn't injured, according to police.

However, police say Wilson ran off and they're considering him armed and dangerous.

“We have not recovered the handgun at this time and we have reason to believe it is still in his possession,” said Sgt. Scott Gaarde with Iowa City Police.

Although Gaarde says the incident was "fairly isolated " he's asking the public to be on the lookout for Wilson.

He's described as a light-skinned black man with braids to his shoulders, about 5 feet, 11 inches tall, weighing 155 pounds

Police say he was wearing a white t-shirt, tan cargo shorts, black shoes, and a black and gray Chicago hat.

Investigators believe Wilson has lived in the Johnson County area.

“We continue to follow all leads as they are presented to us as well as trying to determined which locations he may still have relationships with,” said Gaarde.

Police say Wilson is believed to be armed and dangerous. The Iowa City Police Department's Investigation Unit is actively investigating the incident and charges are pending.

If you see him do approach him and immediately call 911.

The Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering up to a $1,000 cash reward for information leading to his arrest. Anyone with information is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 358-TIPS (8477).
