TAMA COUNTY (KWWL) -

Two people were injured this morning in a crash on Highway 30, about 10 miles west of Tama.

The Iowa State Patrol says a westbound semi, driven by 31-year-old Brandon Patterson of Rockford, Michigan, tried to make a u-turn at the intersection of Highway 30 and E Avenue at around 4:30 a.m.

Troopers say a westbound car driven by 54-year-old Dorie Gummert of Toledo, Iowa crashed into the trailer.

The semi then stopped, blocking the inside, eastbound lane of Highway 30.That's when troopers say an eastbound car driven by 37-year-old Charity Smith of Grand Junction, Iowa came over the hill and collided with the cab of the semi.

Gummert and her 24-year-old passenger Tiffany Gummert were both taken to a local hospital.

Charges are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
