Little League team throws game to knock Iowa out of World Series

DES MOINES (WHO) -

A Little League Softball team intentionally threw a game during the World Series to keep an Iowa team from playing, according to Little League officials.

WHO-TV in Des Moines reports that officials told Central Iowa coach Charlie Husak the U.S. West team didn't start their four best players, had players bunt with two strikes and swung at balls in the dirt intentionally to record outs.

Husak told WHO that his Central Iowa team, who was watching the game between U.S. West and U.S. Southeast, noticed the style of play had dramatically changed.

"It was very evident right away what was going on," Husak told WHO.

U.S. West was undefeated 3-0 in World Series pool play before they were upset by U.S. Southeast 8-0.

League officials didn't disqualify U.S. West, but said Central Iowa will play them in a one-game playoff at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
