Mt. Vernon Police Chief announces retirement after 30 years with dept.

Mount Vernon Police Chief Mark Winder has announced he's retiring after 30 years with the department, and serving 20 of those years as police chief.

Winder made the announcement at Monday night's city council meeting.

Winder says he's accepted the position as Public Safety Director at Cornell College. His retirement is effective Aug. 23.

According to Winder, Sgt. Doug Shannon has been appointed to police chief for the Mount Vernon Police Department.
