CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Neighbors of a Cedar Rapids apartment complex are nervous after a man was shot and seriously wounded early Monday morning.

Police were called to the Goldfinch Meadows apartment complex around 2:30 in the morning Monday.

This is located off of Stoney Point Road in SW Cedar Rapids.

While police were responding to a report of gunshots at the location, they found the victim, a 37-year-old man who had been shot in the torso.

The victim went to a local hospital with a life-threatening injury.

Some neighbors nearby heard the whole thing.

"My daughter woke up at 2:30 in the morning crying, so I went in and put her in my bed, and about two minutes later, I heard a loud gun shot," said Heather Erdmann, a neighbor to the building where the incident took place. "It sounded almost like glass was breaking, and it was so close I thought it could have been maybe my window."

A woman that lives inside of the apartment where the shooting took place did not want to comment.

Some of the neighbors in the area were startled.

"It's very frightening for anybody who lives out here, but especially with my great-grandchildren, and they just moved out here, and so, you know, that's frightening for everybody out here with children," said Maria Cauros, who lives in the complex.

Some neighbors even say they are planning on moving.

"This is the third time it's happened here this year out here -- it's never happened up in the two-bedrooms, it's usually really family-oriented up here, it's usually down in the one-bedrooms -- but since it's so close, it's kind of scaring us away," said Erdmann.

Other neighbors say the area is usually quiet, and there is one thing continuing to help them feel safe tonight.

"If he was still on the run, I might be a little bit more frightened but, no, I feel good that they have him behind bars," said Cauros.

Police are not sure why the shooting took place. It is still under investigation.
