TAMA COUNTY (KWWL) -

Neighbors that live near the intersection off Highway 30 and Highway 21 where a fatal accident occurred Friday,

say accident's there are fairly common.

Aside from the deaths involved, they say the accident was not rare.

"We have lived here about 13 years now and over the 13 years I've seen at least three if not four accidents of somebody pulling out in front or of highway 30 people coming by," said George Bessman, who can see the intersection from his front yard.

One neighbor told me has lived near the intersection since 1980 and has seen at least 25 accidents there.

Friday, a car was traveling south bound on Highway 21, when it was broadsided by a semi which was traveling on Highway 30.

The accident caused the semi to jackknife, but the driver of the semi was not seriously hurt.

All four people who died were in the car which went into a ditch after it was hit.

Neighbors did say the intersection has improved since red flashing lights were installed.

Some say the safety of the intersection isn't the problem.

"I would say it's safe if they'd stop and look, that's all it takes really because it's open a good mile and a half either way on Highway 30 there. You know, there's nothing blinding about it but they've just got, people have just got to stop and look," said Bessman.
