DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Jackson County Supervisor, Larry "Buck" Koos will be honored by Gov. Terry Branstad for his life saving actions in a Jackson County Courthouse shooting last year.

The Lifesaving with Valor award will be presented to Koos Friday, Aug. 21 at the Iowa State Fair.  The ceremony starts at 10:00 a.m. at the Susan Knapp Amphitheater, and is free and open to the public.

The Governor's Lifesaving Awards program was started in the 1970's and are presented to people who have performed a courageous act during a life-threatening situation or for their service rendered during a time of emergency.

Koos tackled former city manager, Gus Glaser, after he pulled a gun out during a meeting in September, 2014.  No one present was hit with gunfire, and Koos escaped with minor injuries.
