CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

Cedar Falls police say a man is fortunately OK after being hit in the head with a golf club in an apparent attempted robbery.

It happened on the corner of College and University near the UNI campus early Monday morning, around 2:30 am.

Authorities say a young man met four people at a nearby bar, and invited them to his house afterward.

The four people allegedly stole items from his house, including a golf club.

When the victim chased the four people down to retrieve his possessions, they hit him over the head with his golf club,.

UNI students say they're not surprised by the attack.

"There's some really shady things that happen here," said Joel DeYoung, a senior.

With classes starting up in roughly two weeks, students say this crime serves as a warning to their new, younger, counterparts.

"The first person you meet doesn't have to be your best friend," said DeYoung.

"Yeah don't just distrust everyone but don't just assume everyone is going to be fair because that's not the world we live in," said Ben Bonwell, who lives on campus.

The victim was treated at Sartori Hospital for a cut on his head.

Police are looking at local security cameras to aid their investigation, but so far no arrests have been made.
