Family, friends remember fallen Black Hawk Co. deputy

Family and friends came together Friday evening to remember Black Hawk County deputy Tim Petersen.

Petersen died Tuesday night from internal injuries sustained after an off-duty motorcycle accident. He was 34.

Whether it be as a Black Hawk County deputy, friend, or father, Petersen touched the lives of many.

"I think, with Tim, you have to remember just how much he cared for people, how much he enjoyed helping people," said Steve Petersen, Tim's father.

It was evident Friday night just how many people Petersen inspired.

Hundreds of people took the time to visit Petersen's family at his visitation.

Petersen was a Black Hawk County deputy for nine years, following the footsteps of his father.

"I thought he was foolish, but I can see where he could do that," said Steve Petersen. "I can see where any kid would do that, if something really sparked a kid's interest in what their parents do."

Petersen says his son was a great deputy and served this community well.

He says he's proud of him, especially as a father to his son, five-year-old Jax.

"Always be on your toes around Jax, just like you did Tim," said Petersen.

Petersen's funeral was at Prairie Lakes Church in Cedar Falls. Rites were conducted by the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard.
