CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

It's been more than 24 hours since authorities found an active meth lab inside a Cedar Rapids Taco Bell and the news is still a shock to many.

“Well it's kind of scary,” said DeEtta Andersen. “This is my favorite Taco Bell, or should I say it was my favorite Taco Bell?”

Andersen's sister Sonia Sowa says it's unbelievable.

“I hear on the news that there's a meth lab down the street from where my sister lives, it's unbelievable! It's actually extremely alarming because I know Taco Bell has a great reputation and does great food nationwide,” said Sowa.

According to police, Coleman fuel, lye, drain cleaner were all active when they were found inside the Taco Bell on Blairs Ferry Road NE.

Dan Stepleton with the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement says the chemicals are highly hazardous and can lead to death.

“Coleman fuel usually is a solvent that they'll grab, then they'll have their lithium,” said special agent, Dan Stepleton. “Lye is a very caustic chemical and it's basically used as a drain cleaner.”

Stepleton says the chemicals found all have an extreme inhalation hazard.

“Personally, after it was cleaned up, I would go back in again,” said Stepleton. “We've had business setting before where they had to go through the cleaning process this makes it a special circumstance since you're talking about a restaurant and there's health codes and stuff involved.”

As for Taco Bell customers some say they likely won't come back to the one on Blairs Ferry.

“Um, I don't know. I'd have to think about this taco bell but I might eat at a taco bell otherwise,” said Sowa.
