Cedar Rapids firefighters to perform controlled home burn

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -
Cedar Rapids firefighters will be performing a controlled burn at a home starting on Thursday afternoon and continuing throughout the day on Friday. The home is at 117 2nd Street SW, and it is owned by the City of Cedar Rapids and is scheduled for demolition. During the burn, crews may perform a training exercises on Thursday as well, potentially including: 360 degree assessment, search and rescue, fire entry, interior fire attack, and extinguishment.
The fire department says they've filed all necessary paperwork with Linn County Public Health and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
The fire department is typically allowed just two practice burns a year.
If weather doesn't cooperate, the burn will be rescheduled.
