DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

In an effort to reach out to the community, the Dubuque Police Department hosts National Night Out along with many other communities across the nation.

The event was held at Comiskey Park in downtown Dubuque. Games, bounce houses, music and food were all provided for children and parents. Cop cars and ambulances were even opened up for kids for close viewing.

Lieutenant Scott Baxter says that the event is a great way for police officers to engage with their community in a positive way.

"It's just about getting out, having fun, intermingling between law enforcement and the public. Oftentimes when we respond to calls obviously it's for something negative. So this is a chance to be out here and interact on a positive note," he said.

Lieutenant Baxter says that this is the sixth year that Dubuque has participated in this nation-wide event.
