DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Carnegie-Stout Public Library in Dubuque wants you to read to the young ones in your family.

They have launched a reading program called 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten to encourage families to read at least 1,000 books to their child before starting school.

The program was developed to help increase the importance of reading to children under age 5.

Parents can start signing up for the program August 17th at the library.

Each child will get a reading log and folder to help organize materials.

Children will get a prize when they reach the goal of reading 100 books.
